Café Joyeux is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit family of coffee shops with the mission to provide employment, training and empowerment to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. More than jobs, we offer skill development, social encounters, autonomy and a chance at a purposeful life.

A coffee company on a mission — and a storefront that carries it.

Café Joyeux is the rare brand where the mission is the product. Founded in France, now operating in the US, every café employs people with intellectual disabilities in real, customer-facing roles.

Our storefront had to do two jobs: sell the coffee, and tell the story — without letting either overpower the other. The mission isn't a badge on the homepage. It's the homepage.

02The brief

Coffee and mission — told at the same volume.

Mission-led brands usually fall into one of two traps: the mission drowns the product, or the product drowns the mission. The brief was to hold both at the same intensity.

We rebuilt the Shopify storefront, shipped a corporate sister site (covered separately), and took on ongoing content, CRM, and paid — all the while protecting the editorial tone.

The storefront was designed to lead with purpose first — using ecommerce to support Café Joyeux’s nonprofit mission and employment programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Products support the story. The experience was built to balance conversion, community, and mission-driven storytelling.
